Drug addiction is a global crisis, deeply affecting people across all walks of life. From children to senior citizens, many find themselves trapped in its grip. Whether in urban or rural areas, the presence of drugs is alarmingly pervasive. The dependency on substances such as heroin, opioids, cocaine, and synthetic drugs is steadily increasing.
This issue does not discriminate; it spans all age groups, socioeconomic statuses, and cultural backgrounds. The widespread nature of drug use highlights the urgent need for comprehensive intervention and rehabilitation strategies to address and combat this devastating epidemic.
Drug addiction has profound and far-reaching consequences, affecting individuals and communities worldwide. According to the latest WHO report, around 2.6 million people die annually due to alcohol consumption, with 2 million of these deaths being men.
Additionally, drug and intoxication-related deaths account for approximately 600,000 fatalities each year, with 400,000 of these among men. This alarming situation threatens all living beings if not addressed promptly.
In 2019, an estimated 1.6 million deaths from alcohol were attributed to noncommunicable diseases, including 474,000 deaths from cardiovascular diseases and 401,000 from cancer. Furthermore, 724,000 deaths resulted from injuries such as traffic accidents, self-harm, and interpersonal violence. Another 284,000 deaths were linked to infectious diseases, including AIDS and tuberculosis. Notably, 13% of alcohol-attributable deaths in 2019 occurred among young people aged 20–39.
The impact of drug abuse extends from personal health to social well-being. It leads to chronic illnesses, mental health disorders, and a significant decline in overall well-being. Individuals may experience cognitive impairments, increased susceptibility to infections, and severe health deterioration.
Socially, the implications are equally severe. Addiction often results in job loss, fractured relationships, and financial instability. It also contributes to societal issues such as increased crime rates and decreased productivity. Addicted individuals may struggle to perform daily tasks, and their focus may waver, hampering their overall success and social life.
Addressing this crisis requires a comprehensive approach, encompassing prevention, and rehabilitation, to safeguard the well-being of individuals and society.
To combat the scourge of substance abuse and save young people from its devastating grip, His Holiness Revered
Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan
launched the DEPTH Campaign. This global initiative is making significant strides in eradicating drug abuse, empowering individuals to overcome addiction and reclaim their lives.
The DEPTH Campaign stands for,
It is a holistic program designed to eliminate drugs from the world, relying heavily on the transformative power of meditation taught by Revered Guruji. Through this powerful method, over 70 million people have successfully broken free from their dependence on drugs.
At His call, millions pledge to abandon the drug habit, contributing to a movement for a cleaner, drug-free society. The campaign's impact is evident in every spiritual gathering (Satsang), where thousands of individuals attend to break free from addiction.
Beyond meditation, the campaign supports individuals in their journey to recovery by providing nutrition kits. This comprehensive approach not only helps people overcome addiction but also fosters a healthier, more fulfilling life.
The DEPTH Campaign is yielding remarkable results, fostering a resurgence of hope and transformation in countless lives. It is surely guiding individuals toward a healthier, drug-free future.
A man, who had successfully overcome a severe addiction to Buprenorphine (a morphine-like drug) that required him to inject 80 times a day, expresses his heartfelt gratitude to Revered Guruji for this transformative journey. Dera Sacha Sauda is brimmed of such examples.

“Revered Guru Ji's advocates that drugs are dangerous weapons used against our nation. The youth, succumbing to the lure of intoxicants, are becoming physically unfit and unproductive. When children and young people fall into the trap of addiction, the country's future spirals downward. Moreover, the illicit drug trade is a significant contributor to narco-terrorism, a grave threat to global security. This is a war we must all fight and win to eradicate terrorism and ensure a brighter, drug-free future for our country and the world."
