Revered Shah Mastana Ji Maharaj, the ocean of benevolence and the bestower of immense exuberance, is the esteemed founder of Dera Sacha Sauda. He filled the lives of countless individuals with divine grace, connecting them to God’s name and making their lives worthy of His blessings.
Sai Ji, with unparalleled divine love and kindness, bestowed immeasurable grace upon all, a benevolence beyond the reach of words. During his twelve-year spiritual prime from 1948 to 1960, Shehanshah Mastana Ji Maharaj preached the Method of Meditation (Gurumantra) to thousands across India.
By imparting the precious God’s name freely, he enabled countless souls to attain divine grace. His Holiness manifested several divine acts, such as distributing material riches including gold, silver, currency notes, and clothing to connect people with the divine. Through these acts, he drew more people towards spirituality and the path of righteousness. Without seeking anything in return, His Holiness continually filled hearts with benevolence, guiding all toward the true path of meditation and selfless service.
Later, His Holiness Huzoor Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj honored Him with the name of “Shah Mastana Ji,” who also used to call Revered Mastana Ji as “Mastanon ka Mastana, Shahon ka Shah- Shah Mastana Ji.”
From a young age, Revered Sai Ji harbored a deep devotion to the Almighty. At just 14 years old, he left home in search of a True Spiritual Guru. Despite encountering many individuals on his journey, none could quench his thirst for meeting a True Satguru. He sought the complete truth, rejecting the superficial powers promised by many prophets and sages along the way.
His quest finally led him to Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj at Dera Beas. During one of the spiritual congregations, Sai Ji was blessed with the Method of Meditation, and his longing for the Divine Lord was finally fulfilled. His sincere and devoted nature resonated deeply with Sawan Shah Ji, who recognized in him the qualities of a true disciple. As a result, Sai Ji was entrusted with the sacred duty of conducting spiritual discourses (Satsang) and imparting the Method of Meditation to people across the provinces of Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab.
Later, His Holiness Baba Sawan Singh Ji entrusted Shah Mastana Ji with the sacred duty of advancing this divine mission in the Bagarh region (encompassing parts of northern Rajasthan and western Haryana). Through this, His Holiness appointed Shah Mastana Ji as his spiritual successor in the Sirsa region of Haryana, to spread the divine message and make people acquainted with Naam-Shabad/Gurumantra. Thus, the foundation of Dera Sacha Sauda was laid in Sirsa in 1948.
His Holiness emphasized the principle of earning wealth through hard work and honest means alone. He also strictly prohibited the acceptance of donations or charity in any form. The teachings of Sai Ji emphasized on having deep devotion towards the Almighty, without any pretense or hypocrisy. The Almighty is omnipresent, so whatever one does is seen by Him. So, one should never perform wrong deeds or should strive to remove their vices. The impactful teachings of Sai Ji showcased the righteous path to seekers.
The Holy Slogan "Dhan Dhan Satguru Tera Hi Aasra" was coined by His Holiness with the divine permission of Sawan Shah Ji. Initially, Beparwah Ji chanted various slogans, including "Dhan Dhan Mere Makhan Malayi Tera Hi Aasra," and “Hajar Naajar Zindaram Tera Hi Aasra.”However, upon instruction from Sawan Shah Ji, it was refined to "Dhan Dhan Satguru Tera Hi Aasra."
Here, 'Satguru' is a term commonly used to represent the Almighty. Beparwah Ji received divine blessings that whoever chants this sacred slogan with deep devotion will experience miracles, death can be reversed, speeding trains will come to a halt, and even the most impossible tasks will be accomplished.
The Nara simply means,
Dhan Dhan: Only Almighty is worthy of praise
Satguru: A common word to represent the Supreme Omnipresent being, usually known with the words Om, Allah, Waheguru, Ram, Parmatma, God, etc.
Tera Hi Asra: We are solely dependent on Him and only He can help us anytime, anywhere, and in any eventuality!
His Holiness has established 25 ashrams across Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, each equipped with facilities for drinking water and langar (free community meals).
Through his spiritual guidance, thousands of individuals have received the sacred Naam-Shabad (Method of Meditation/Gurumantra) under the condition that they commit to three lifelong principles:
Revered Sai Ji received blessings from Revered Sawan Shah Ji that anyone who receives the Method of Meditation from Sai Ji will have one foot securely planted in this mortal world and the other in Sachkhand, the divine abode. This signifies that those who receive the Gurumantra, or Method of Meditation, from Dera Sacha Sauda will attain final salvation, freeing them from the cycle of birth and death forever.
To continue the spiritual legacy of Dera Sacha Sauda, Revered Sai Mastana Ji Maharaj entrusted the spiritual leadership to Revered Shah Satnam Singh Ji Maharaj on February 28, 1960. Having ignited the light of spiritual knowledge in countless hearts, he departed for his eternal holy abode on April 18, 1960.
A True Spiritual Guru is one descended from the Almighty for a divine purpose. He remains ever-connected to the Supreme Being and incarnates in human form according to the Almighty’s will. After fulfilling his designated duties within the appointed time, he entrusts his spiritual responsibilities to a successor (predetermined by the Almighty) and returns to his original, eternal abode, known as Anami Desh, Nijsham, or Sachkhand (the divine realm).
A true saint transcends the cycle of birth and death, descending by the Almighty to accomplish a divine mission, and upon its completion, he returns to the divine abode.
Dhan Dhan Satguru Tera Hi Asra!
