Human life is considered the culmination of a long journey through 84 lakh life forms, where the soul progresses through various stages of existence to finally attain the human form. The true purpose of this sacred gift is not merely to experience worldly pleasures but to connect with the Almighty and live a life of meditation, selfless service, and compassion.
However, few humans realize this divine purpose in their lifetime, and even fewer live a life that inspires generations to come. One such exceptional soul was Respected Bapu Sardar Maghar Singh Ji, a beacon of humility, love, and devotion to humanity.
Every year on October 5th, the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda come together to commemorate the life and legacy of Respected Bapu Sardar Maghar Singh Ji, the esteemed father of His Holiness Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan, on a day known as Parmarthi Diwas. This day is dedicated to remembering his sacrifice, compassion, and extraordinary commitment to the welfare of others. It serves as a reminder to honor the path he walked, a path of selfless service and unconditional love for all beings.
Born in 1929 in the village of Sri Gurusarmodia in the Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, Sardar Maghar Singh Ji came from a deeply rooted, spiritual family. His father was Shri Chita Singh Ji, and his mother was Smt. Sant Kaur Ji, but Bapu Ji was lovingly adopted by his elder uncle, Sri Santa Singh Ji, and aunt, Chand Kaur Ji, whom he respected and revered as his parents.
Even as a child, Bapu Ji demonstrated extraordinary qualities of kindness, humility, and selflessness. His heart was always open to those in need, and he became known in his village for his philanthropy.
Bapu Maghar Singh Ji had many spiritual experiences during his early life, which pointed to his divine connection. On several occasions, he was saved from harm by a mysterious tall man dressed in white, with a long beard and holding a long staff in his hand. This figure appeared whenever Bapu Ji faced danger, warning him to change his path and return home. For many years, Bapu Ji believed this figure was his uncle.
However, it was only after receiving the Method of Meditation that Bapu Ji realized the figure was none other than Param Pita Shah Satnam Singh Ji Maharaj, the second spiritual leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, who had been watching over him throughout his life.
After 18 years of marriage, Bapu Maghar Singh Ji and his wife, Mata Naseeb Kaur Ji, were finally blessed with a son after fervent prayers and devotion. Before his birth, a saint named Triveni Dass Jihad prophesied that the couple would be blessed with a divine child, but he would only remain with them for 23 years before fulfilling his true spiritual mission. This child, born after years of hope and longing, was none other than Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan.
From a very young age, his ways & works demonstrated that he was no ordinary child. At just seven years old, he began operating a tractor with skill far beyond his years, taking on the responsibility of managing the family's land and household duties by the time he was nine. His deep sense of compassion, wisdom, and selflessness was apparent to all who met, and it was clear that he was destined for a higher purpose.
As prophesied, in the 23rd year of his life, Saint Dr. MSG was chosen to succeed Shah Satnam Singh Ji Maharajas the spiritual leader of Dera Sacha Sauda. This event marked the beginning of his incredible journey of service, love, and humanitarianism.
The most defining moment in Bapu Maghar Singh Ji’s life was his unparalleled sacrifice. Having waited 18 long years for the birth of his son, one would expect any parent to be deeply attached to their child.
Despite being so deeply attached to his son, Bapu Ji was an exemplary devotee of God as well. When Shah Satnam Singh Ji Maharaj asked for his son to take on the spiritual leadership of Dera Sacha Sauda and dedicate his life to serving humanity, Bapu Ji did not hesitate. He readily gave up his only son, who was the light of his life, for the greater good of humanity.
This sacrifice is not just remarkable, it is unprecedented. The depth of Bapu Ji’s faith in the Almighty and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of others is a manifestation of his spiritual greatness. His act of handing over his son for the service of humanity stands as a symbol of the highest form of love for God, a love that transcends personal attachments and desires. With this, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan became a global spiritual leader whose humanitarian initiatives continue to touch millions of lives (as pre-destined by the Lord).
Throughout his life, Bapu Maghar Singh Ji exemplified the qualities of a true disciple filled with compassion, humility, and dedication to the welfare of others. He lived simply, never seeking recognition or fame, yet his life had a profound impact on those around him. His actions showed that spirituality is not just about personal enlightenment but about lifting others and serving humanity selflessly.
Bapu Ji’s unwavering faith in the Almighty, his love for his fellow beings, and his deep sense of duty toward the betterment of society are virtues that continue to inspire all. His life was a shining example of how one can merge spirituality with practical service, living not only for oneself but for the greater good of mankind.
To honor the memory of Bapu Maghar Singh Ji, followers of Dera Sacha Sauda dedicate Parmarthi Diwas to humanitarian service. The day is marked by blood donation camps, free medical services, and other acts of charity. These welfare initiatives aim to alleviate suffering, uplift the downtrodden, and spread love and kindness.
The greatest way to remember Bapu Maghar Singh Ji is to emulate his values and dedicate oneself to the betterment of humanity.
Parmarthi Diwas is a reminder that the essence of human life is not in material pursuits but in serving others and nurturing the qualities of love, humility, and kindness.
Let us come together to commemorate this day by engaging in selfless acts and making a difference in the lives of others. This is the true essence of Parmarthi Diwas, a day dedicated to humanity, compassion, and spiritual awakening.
